THE CEDAREX ROOFING RESTORATION PROCESS

A roof is a big investment for any homeowner, so ideally you don't want to have to replace the entire thing unless you really have to. That's why, when you call on CedarEX™ to rejuvenate your roof, the first thing we look at is whether it's a better idea to repair your roof and restore it to like new condition, or replace it entirely.

If the wood of your roof is in good shape, but certain sections need repair, we'll often suggest your property should undergo the CedarEX™ roof restoration process, where we work with your existing roof to bring it back to like new condition, rather than going to the expense of starting from scratch.

As you can see in the images below, the difference can be dramatic after CedarEX™ has completed the restoration process.

THE PROCESS EXPLAINED:

Step 1) Inspection of the roof - The first thing we do when we get to your home is look over your roof to decide whether or not it needs restoring, replacing, or treating (or a combination of the three). Our staff are told that if your roof can be restored without great expense, and will last a long time as a result, they should tell you so. We DON'T try to sell our customers a new roof every time we talk to them, only what they NEED (frankly, we don't have the time and/or inclination to replace every roof in Vancouver, we just want your roof to be strong, attractive, and last for as long as it possibly can, and if your existing roof has 'good bones', there's no need to re-roof).

Step 2) Education - You need to know ALL the ins and outs of your roof before anyone lifts a finger to repair it. You should know what parts of your roof are prone to damage (from trees or moisture or moss), which parts are damaged more heavily than others, you should be shown how to maintain your roof so your investment lasts longer, and you should be given all the options, with no sugar-coating and no selling, so you can make the best educated decision on which way to go forward.

Step 3) Preparation - Once you've decided on a course of action, we'll acquire the materials, treatments, and we'll assign a crew to handle the job and schedule an approximate start date.

Step 4) Repair of the roof - Every roof we process receives shims, which are barbed 28 gauge metal inserts, placed where a ‘crack over a crack’ situation exists. Depending on the roof, we might install anywhere from 200 to 1,000 shims, as well as new ridge caps. If a shingle or shake is simply unserviceable, we'll replace it entirely. Installation of shakes, shims and ridge caps brings a roof back to A-1 strength.

Step 5) - Cleaning of the roof – Hot water cleaning is far and away the best method of getting your roof clean and clear of impurities - if it is done by skilled operators on a roof that is structurally sound. Given to inexperienced companies likely the process won’t be a pleasant one for anybody (nor for your roof). However, with CedarEX™, you will get some of the best cleaning technicians around. Proper hot water cleaning will remove only the outer pulpy dead mass and NOT harm the firm cedar underneath. Usually, those that tell you a roof shouldn’t be cleaned or walked on will inevitably either not have the training to do it properly, or they want you to spend $30,000-$40,000 on an entirely new roof instead (which they will happily install). At CedarEx, we're good enough to do what's REALLY needed to get your roof ready for action - a simple, quality clean.

STEP 6) Application of treatment and protection products – The most important part of the restoration process is the application of CedarEX treatment. This part of the process is weather dependant – the cedar should be relatively dry before application - so we monitor the weather and spray the treatment on the best day available to ensure the treatment bonds to the cedar properly, and gives you decades of extra protection. For really bad moss/lichen problems ask your CedarEX representative about our exclusive moss inhibitor additive that virtually stops algae growth. You can thank the NRC for that!

STEP 7) The CedarEX Guarantee - You'll receive a warranty that beats anyone else's in the industry. No hidden catches. CedarEX is proud of its 10 year product, leak, workmanship and cedar roof life guarantee. Ask your CedarEX representative for details and also for our special contingent guarantee that sets us apart from any of our competitors.
